Open positions

We seek scientific researchers with PhDs, or MSc degrees plus 3-5 years of experience, for positions on our scientific staff.  Current openings focus on company needs in biotechnology and medical genetics, and on machine learning.

Cardiomix occupies a unique space where single-cell genomics meets large-scale machine learning in the environment of a leading centre of diagnostic and therapeutic cardiology. The company marshals these resources to develop genetically tailored strategies that set a new standard of personalized medicine in the prevention and treatment of heart disease.  We have built the world’s first, and by far most advanced ML platform for decoding the information in single-cell genomic sequences to recognize individual patient vulnerabilities and optimize treatment for life-threatening arrhythmogenic diseases.

Our diagnostic systems group combines scientists and engineers with expertise in physiology, genomics (single-cell sequencing), single-molecule microscopy, and machine learning, with leading heart surgeons and diagnostic clinicians.  It accesses one of the world’s largest and best-curated databases of accurately diagnosed cardiovascular patients.

Research Scientist - Biochemistry & Genomics for Medical Diagnosis

We wish to add a biochemist with experience in genomics to lead in the discovery, formulation, and design of diagnostic strategies and products.  This work will develop models based upon information derived from genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic analyses of serological samples derived from our accurately diagnosed patient database.  Cardiomix scientists will add further insight drawn from the physiological implications of measured single-molecule protein-protein interaction dynamics and incisive genetic information determined by means of tailored single-cell sequencing studies.

Research and Development Responsibilities

You will join with Cardiomix biochemists, molecular biologists and cardiologists active in the Institute for Molecular and Translational Cardiology, and with scientists and engineers active in local collaborations with the Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele and Università di Milano, as well as the University of British Columbia and ScopeSys in Vancouver to develop scalable models for predicting cardiological disease and disease susceptibility.

In the course of this work, you will:

  • Devise and implement state-of-the-art methodologies for isolating key biomarkers from serological samples..

  • Perform genome sequence analysis, assembly, and annotation, drawing upon knowledge and insight from diverse genomics datasets and computational tools.

  • Carry out next-generation sequence data analysis (NGS).

  • Devise experiments to derive value from single-cell sequencing.

  • Employ gene expression analysis, RNA-Seq, microarray, and proteomics.

  • Collaborate with information scientists at Cardiomix and associated academic laboratories to develop machine learning tools for biomarker-based medical assessment.

  • Transform models that emerge from research success to yield diagnostic products of value to medical practitioners and their patients.

Preferred Background, Skills, and Experience

  • Degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Molecular Biology.

  • Background in ‘omics-related computational modeling.

  • Interests that extend to information science and medicine.

  • Experience in devising workflows for biomarker analysis.

Benefits

  • An opportunity to play a leading part in the development of incisive diagnostic tools and services that will save the lives of vulnerable people of all ages and means.

  • A competitive salary and meaningful equity compensation.

  • Outstanding opportunities for technical learning and growth.

  • Be part of an international team of technologists, academic scientists, and physicians joined in a unique, highly interdisciplinary effort at a unique frontier of knowledge.
